I will be offering lessons, workshops and clinics for those of you that would like to get into driving, improve your driving, start a horse, improve your horse or whatever your interests are!

There’s something truly amazing about driving horses and I want to share with you what others have shared with me over the past 30 years!

Lesson Sessions

Lessons from our home base: I offer various instructions, lessons and driving at and from our place outside of Victor. This is the most economical way to enjoy a lesson! Single and team driving instructions, as well as hooking multiple hitches such as 3 abreast, 4 abreast, 4 up or unicorn hitches.

Most people do not have the luxury of a personal arena. And since we do not have an arena as well, the scenario we are practicing is the same as you would encounter, when wanting to harness, hitch and go for a drive with your horse at your place.

• Using our horses and equipment, or yours, this is a great way to get started to get the feel of driving while going for a stroll down the road, and before tackling more technical exercises in an arena.

• Or maybe you simply want to advance your skills. We have horses to suit all levels, or you bring your own horse and equipment.

• You might need some additional help driving your own horse outside an arena, or need advice with harness and equipment.          

Sessions vary in length, depending what you are choosing to work on. But a typical session includes harnessing and hitching, rounded out by a drive, and are about 2.5 hours in duration.

• $100.00 / person / 2.5 hour session / your horse and equipment. Additional hours are $40.00 / person. 

• $150.00 and up / person / 2.5 session / our horses and equipment. Additional hours are $60.00 and up / person and depend on number of horses being used.                                                                                                                     

• You may add another student and share a lesson with the same horse and equipment for $50 / additional student. Learning together is fun and saves you money as well!

Lessons at your local location or local arena:  Having access to several different arenas here in the valley, we have a safe environment for training, groundwork, introducing new skills or working on more technical maneuvers. Arena reservations need to be made in advance, and arena cost is not included in any rates.

If you have your own suitable arena, it is the most convenient option for you and I am happy to come to your place.

• $100.00 minimum and up / person / 1.5 hour session / your horse and equipment. Additional hours are $40.00 / person. 

• Rates include my travel but vary depending on your location.

• Horses and equipment can be provided for an additional cost.

Full Day or Weekend Private Instruction

Private instructions, in form of a private day or an entire weekend here in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley, is the answer for those of you that seek one-on-one in-depth instructions with topics tailored to your needs. Private days are packed full of instruction!

Our horses and equipment are available, and you will gain experience both driving on country roads, in town, as well as challenging your skills in the arena practicing more technical maneuvers.

Some of the things we can cover:

• Groundwork for the driving horse – Improve your current driving equine or learn THE first steps in teaching your horse how to drive.

• Introduction to driving the single horse – Harnessing, hitching, line and whip handling.

• Driving instructions for all levels of drivers – Forward motion, driving with contact, driving with precision, driving with speed and much more!

• Addressing specific driving problems – Is it the horse or is it the driver?

• Introduction to team driving – Previous driving experience required (single horse)

• Hitching and driving multiples – Team driving experience required

Rates:

Rates vary as each private clinic is a little different and depend on what topics you choose. Rates start at:

• $320.00 / day minimum / student with own horse

• $600.00 / weekend / student with own horse

• $150.00 / day hands-on “spouse” rate, if sharing same own horse / equipment

• $ 50.00 / auditing only

Rates Include: lessons, instructions, consulting, use of our horses and equipment as needed at our place, lunch

Rates do not include: arena fees, extra charge to haul horses / equipment to arena, meals other than lunch, boarding fees and feed

Instructions at your place:

I can also be available to travel to your location for a full private day or weekend full of instructions. It saves you from having to travel with your horse. However, I require safe surroundings, such as an arena, to work in, depending on the topic we will be working on.

• $360.00 / day minimum / student with own horse

• $640.00 / weekend or two day package / student with own horse

• $150.00 / day hands on “spouse” rate, if sharing same horse / equipment

• $ 50.00 / auditing

• $240 / day for horse and cart

Rates include : lessons, instructions, consulting - I am “yours” all day or weekend!

Rates do not include: arena fees, use of our horses and equipment

Additional Charges: Travel + fuel, lodging and meals, bringing horse and equipment
