Salmon, ID Driving Clinic

This little clinic is partially sponsored by the Horse Council and offers 4H youth drivers as well as other participants an opportunity to work on their driving skills.

We will start out with a classroom type session covering understanding harness function, how improper harness adjustment impacts the driving horse and proper fitting of horse to the cart.

Students will be divided into smaller groups to allow for plenty of one-on-one time of learning.
A morning session will allow us to assess skills and knowledge of each driver, and a second session allows us to build on what we have learn earlier in that day.

Topics include all the basics skills a driver or teamster should know:

  • Line and whip holds and handling

  • Why we drove with contact.

  • Understanding the role of the direct and indirect line

  • Driving our horses versus following our horses

  • Transitions

  • Backing and fanning

This clinic is currently full, but auditing is available!
